Special Features: |
Planet Terror
-
Audience Reaction Track is one of the few relatively useless supplements on this release, documenting the screaming reaction to a screening of this film;
-
Audio Commentaries feature writer-director Rodriguez in his usual informative mode on the Planet Terror part of the double bill. It's especially interesting to hear Rodriguez, who also composed the film's music, talk about the underscoring. Eli Roth also does commentary duty on the short, strange and hilariously disturbing Thanksgiving trailer.
Disc Two:
Planet Terror
-
10 Minute Film School (HD; 11:50) is another Rodriguez narrated featurette going into some detail about Planet Terror's special effects and CGI work;
-
The Badass Babes of 'Planet Terror' (SD; 11:49) gives us some interesting background on the women of the film. Who knew Marley Shelton was double-jointed, making that car door opening scene a. . .snap (sorry);
-
The Guys of 'Planet Terror' (SD; 16:30) is just the flipside of the above featurette, with perhaps slightly less surprising factoids than the distaff side of things contained;
-
Casting Rebel (SD; 5:38). Rodriguez could easily be accused of nepotism with Planet Terror, casting his nieces as the Crazy Babysitter Twins, and his own son Rebel as Dakota's son, Tony. Don't point the gun at yourself, Tony!;
-
Sickos, Bullets and Explosions: The Stunts of 'Planet Terror' (SD; 13:16), looks into the amazing stuntwork that fills virtually every frame of the film;
-
The Friend, the Doctor and the Real Estate Agent (SD; 6:40) proves that Rodriguez isn't just into nepotism, he also enjoys casting friends and associates;
-
'Planet Terror' Poster Gallery includes publicity material for both Machete and Planet Terror
-
Robert Rodriguez' 10 Minute Cooking School (HD; 8:30) teaches the willing student all the secrets to a down home barbeque;
-
The Makeup Effects of 'Planet Terror' (SD; 12:02) is a really interesting look at the fantastic bubbling, festering and oozing zombies.
Death Proof
-
Stunts on Wheels: The Legendary Drivers of 'Death Proof' (SD; 20:39) is a decent, if cursory, look at some of the incredible stunt driving in Tarantino's opus;
-
Quentin's Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke (SD; 4:36). After a brief introduction by Tarantino, this is a rather odd assortment of quick cuts (hence the editing, I guess) of cast members greeting editor Menke;
-
The Guys of 'Death Proof' (SD; 8:14) gives a pretty basic overview of the males in the cast;
-
Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike (SD; 9:32) gives some background on why Tarantino cast Russell and how the character was modeled on some real life weirdos;
-
Finding Quentin's Gals (SD; 21:13) is a somewhat longer form look at the many women in Death Proof, and how the bulk of the roles were actually written with specific actresses in mind;
-
Uncut 'Baby, It's You' by Mary Elizabeth Winstead (SD; B&W; 1:46), is a scene that didn't make it to this theatrical cut of Grindhouse, and only appeared in an abridged version in the standalone release of Death Proof;
-
Introducing Zoë Bell (SD; 8:57). Bell, a professional stuntwoman, made her acting debut in Death Proof;
-
'Double Dare' Trailer (SD; 2:34) is a "prevue" of the 2005 documentary on stuntwomen which featured Zoë Bell;
-
'Death Proof' Poster Gallery is this film's collection of publicity materials;
-
Extended Movie Cues (Audio; 10:28) offers two longer source cues utilized in the film.
-
The Hot Rods of 'Death Proof' (SD; 11:46) is an homage to muscle cars;
-
From Texas to Tennessee: The Production Design of 'Death Proof' (SD; 8:01) is another really interesting discussion, this time with the film's production designers, who tell how Tarantino's choices for art in the film influenced their work.
- Faux Trailers
-
Extended 'Werewolf Women of the S.S.' Trailer (with optional commentary by Rob Zombie) (HD; 4:59);
-
The Making of 'Werewolf Women of the S.S.' Trailer (SD; 8:48);
-
Extended 'Don't' Trailer (with optional commentary by Edgar Wright) (HD; 1:35);
-
The Making of 'Don't' Trailer (SD; 9:40)
-
'Don't' Storyboard/Trailer Comparison (with optional commentary by Edgar Wright) (SD; 1:40);
-
'Don't' Storyboards Still Gallery;
-
'Don't' Poster (with extended score excerpts by David Arnold) (5:54);
-
The Making of 'Thanksgiving' Trailer (SD; 6:27)
-
New York Times Talk (SD; 1:04:06), a gabfest with Tarantino and Rodriguez which is informative and chatty at the same time;
